SUBURBAN NORTH ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Suburban North Road Board was attended by Messrs E. W. Frost (chairman), T. W. Anderson, A. G. Gill, C. J. Dencker and F. IT. Gill. Mr W. D. Thompson was excused from" attendance.

The Overseer's report stated that he had made an inspection of the road in Lower Wangamoa Valley on Tuesday, 26th October, when he found the road leading down tho Valley in very good order, th. 3 dayman having done a fair amount of metal patching since last visit. An improvement had been made to Elizabeth Creek road, the watertable being partly cleaned out, but still a. few more days' work was required to put it in anything like decent order. Two more culverts across this road would be a great improvement, as the water had too far to run, which caused the watertable to be unnecessarily scoured out. The road up Dencker's Creek, leading to Mr* Weller's property, was in rather a neglected state. About a week's work was required removing fallen timber, clearing small slips and attending to culverts. As directed, he had given the dayman of No. 5 section instructions to build' a short length of stone wall in Lud Valley, opposite Mr Holmes' property, to replace' the logs that were there at present, and the work would be proceeded with as soon as possible. The contractor for forming the new road at Glenduan was getting on with the work, but it would be some time before it was completed. The fencing posts that were ordered from Mr Packer for fencing tlrfe Gravel Reserve ha<J been delivered. As instructed, the Overseer wrote to Mr P. B. Adams in reference to the growth of gorse and blackberries on sides of Cable Bay road opposite the property occupied by him, when he was informed by the manager that the work of clearing it away would be put in hand during next month. The secretary of the Nelson Automobile Association asked if the Board would be prepared to undertake further work of improving the turning place for cars on the Boulder Bank near the Glen, suggesting that some big stones along the top of the be removed and the roadway widened.—The Overseer is to interview the secretary of the Association re improving the road as suggested and give an estimate of cost. It was resolved,' on the motion of Mr Dencker, seconded by Mr A. G. Gill, that two new cvdverts be put across tho Elizabeth Creek road as suggested by the Overseer.

it was decided that the Clerk write to Mr Weller (Wangamoa) asking liirh if he would be prepared to do the work required on Dencker's Creek nvid. The Board is prepared to expend £4 on condition that the work is done to the satisfaction of the Board's Overseer.

Applications are to. be invited for daymen and teams up till Friday, 3rd December, 1926, for work on district roads for the ensuing twelve months. Cheques were signed for £l9 2s 6d.
