Several Labour amendments In the Emergency Regulations were proposed and rejected. .Mr Lane-Fox pointed out the dillieulty of eonlrolling coal prices. 'The country could not afford to do without foreign coal. If the price of home coal was reduced by control there would soon be tt. serious siiortage of foreign. Finally, the motion to adjourn till 9th November was carried by 166 to 66 and the House rose.

To addition to the Waikawa. eight, other vessels haw been chartered to load coal for South American ports. Owing to the 'l'oiil strike in England shortages of coal supplies have also occurred in Egypt. Already one vessel has Lieu chartered to load coal in Australia for an Egy|)lian port.
