CANADA AND THE CROWN

STATEMENT BY PREMIER KING OTTAWA, 10th October. Canada was taking no grievance to the Imperial Conference, stated Premier Mackenzie King at Quebec last evening. before sailing fo>r England. He said Canada would be represented at the Conference as a full self-governing nation within the British Commonweallh. "I am sure we will express your wishes when we extend goodwill and heartiest greetings from the people of I his doiiiin ion to the people of Britain ami oilier dominions. Il is flic custom al Imperial Conferences for the Prime Ministers of the dominions to meet His Majesty the King. I think I will express your wish should the privilege be extended to me, if I tell His Majesty that nowhere more than in Canada are there subjects who love him personally and are loyal to the Crown. 1 believe'in the British Empire as tho greatest agency for peace ami goodwill the world has ever known. I want to see the British Empire grow in strength ami might, but it can only grow when built on the corner stone of self-government of self-governing nations within tin? British Commonwealth. I do not believe that position will be questioned by anyone who understands Hie British Empire. Views expressed in our own land will find the fullest acceptance at the council table of the Imperial Conference." These remarks were addressed to a gathering of citizens who bade farewell to the Premier and his colleagues at the dock.
