BLENHEIM-WEST COAST ROAD
j-UAKI.HOROUCm PROGRK.SS LEAGUI?
The Westland Committee of the Canterbury Progress League, with headquarters at Hokitika, wrote to tills week’s meeting of the Marlborough Progress League 1 (says the Express), acknowledging receipt of the Marlborough League’s annual report and stating that the paragraph dealing with the West Coast road had been read with special interest, after which it was decided to convey to the Marlborough League appreciation of its activity in urging the completion of the route. The letter was formally received. The chairman said he was sorry to say that there was some delay over the construction of the bridge at the Wash and he understood that the matter would be fully dealt with in a day or two by the Marlborough Express, which had been investigating the subject. He suggested, when this report appeared,, that it should he forwarded to Mr Girling. Mr Churchward suggested that the matter should be taken further; because, if it was necessary to send a further deputation, it was desirable that the West Coast should he represented. He moved that the Public Works committee be asked to report on the matter. Mr Andrew seconded the motion, stating that there appeared to have been some misapprehension in regard to putting the road on the Marlborough side of the Wash bridge in order and it was probably desirable to make the new Minister for Public Works conversant with the necessities of the road. The motion was carried.
