CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Frederick Dempsey, on a charge of lighting a' small bonfire beneath a horse in an endeavour to persuade the animal to extricate a cart from a culvert, was fined- £2. Magistrate Lawry said that onlj* the fact that the man’s family were dependent on him saved him from going to gaol.
