CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 4 The Addington market to-day-was the “national” or double sale, there being no sale next week on account of the Grand National race meeting. As usual, there was a fine display of quality cattle and sheep from various parts of the Dominion. However, the day of fancy prices would appear to be over, the top figures for big bullocks, apart from one special case, being from'"£24 to £23 10s. lho exception was a Friesian bullock, which weighed 33631 b. as a six-year-old, and which is claimed to be the heaviest uullock in Australasia, it was bought by a local butcher at £9O, the vendor being Mr A. J. Keith (Ashburton). Store sheep : A big entry. Ewes in lamb made better prices than last week. Hood s.s. crossbred owes, 34s 5d to 37s 9d; four, six, and eight-tooth tlireequar- 1 ter-bred ewes, 29s 3d to 325; two-tooth crossbred ewes, 27s to 295; f.m. crossbred owes, 21s to 22s 6d; aged ewes with lambs, 13s, rill counter; two. and four-tooth half-bred wethers, 29s 2d; cull two and four-tooth half-bred wethers, 24s 8d; three-quarter-bred ewe hoggets,’ 27s to 295; wether hoggets, 20s 6d to 21s Bd. •
Fat sheep: A heavy entry'of 14 full races, including numerous pens of show ; sheep. Generally values, though easier! over the earlier stages for ordinary, sheep, firmed up over the later stages. Show sheep realised £2 10s to £5;, prime wethers, 33s 6d to 40s; others, 28s to 335. Prime ewes, 26s to 345; extra, to 41s; others, 20s to 265; .rough, down to 16s. Show hoggets, to 51s 4d: others, 24s 6d to 29s 6d. Fat cattle: 610 were-’yarded, including j some exceptionally good beef. The sale was irregular over the early stages, butconcluded with a hardening tone. Some baby beef made to 43s per 1001 b; prime medium-weight, 34s 6d to 38s; heavyweight, 32s 6d to 365; good heifer beef, 34s 6d ,to 375-6 d; medium, 31s to 33s ‘ 6d; good cow beef, 31s 6d to 345; other beef, 22s 6d to 30s. Show bullocks realised £23 to £2B 10s; extra heavy steers, £lB 5s to £22; heavy prime, £ls 10s to £18; prime medium, £l3 10s to £l6; medium quality steers, £lO to £l3; light steers, £7 10s to £9 10s. Extra prime heifers, to £l4 12s 6d; prime, •£9 to £ll 10s; others, £5 to £8 15s; extra prime cows, to £l4 7s 6d; prime, £8 10s to £11; others £4 8s to £B.
Vealers: Another good sale, there bamg a small entry. Good runners made to £8; medium, £6 10s to £7 10s; calves, 25s to £6. Dairy cattle: A small entry and slightly better values. 'Best springers made £7 to £lO 10s; others, £2 10s to £6 15s; heifers, £5 10s to £8 15s. Store cattle: ‘ A few pens of steers made from £5 15s to £6 15s for three and four-year-olds, and £4 to £4 13s 6d for two and three-years-olds. Fat pigs: Some exceptionally -good baconers were forward. Choppers, £4 to £6; baconers, £5 10s to £7 5s (average price per lb 9d to 9gd); porkers 55s to 83s (average price per lb lOd to lid). Store pigs: A good sale. Weaners made 26s to 30s; stores, 32s to 445; large stores, 50s to 58s.
