SERIOUS FIRE IN DUNEDIN
IN MOSGIEL COMPANY’S PREMISES (United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day Shortly after IP o’clock last night a serious fire broke out in the Mosgiei Woollen Company’s premises in High Street. When the brigade arrived the dames had a strong hold in the basement, the whole stock in the part of the building being destroyed before they could lie suppressed. The stock in the ground and first floors was damaged considerably by smoke. It is estimated there will be a heavy loss to the company. The fire at the Mosgiei Woollen Coy’s premises had a strong hold when the brigade arrived, with the result that the damage amounted io several thousands sterling.' Aii excellent pressure of water enabled the flames to be quickly extinguished, but the whole of the stock stored in the extensive basement was ruined. On the ground floor the fire was confined to a pile of woollen goods. Great volumes of smoke penetrated tile upper part of the building and considerably damaged the stock. In the basement a large quantity of the stock was floating on some inches of water. The stock consisted of hosiery, rugs, tweeds, flannels, and other woollen goods. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. Later. The damage at the Mosgiei Wollen Co.’s fire was well covered by the insurance. The stock was insured for over £30,000 and the building for £6OOO. FIRE AT FELLMONGERY AUCKLAND, This Day A fire destroyed the wool drying room and store in a fellmongery at Drury, owned by Alexander McDonald. About forty bales of wool valued at £BOO, were destroyed. The building was insured for £2OOO.
