FARMERS’ WINTER SCHOOL

BIG GATHERING AT RICHMOND DEMONSTRATIONS AND LECTURES Under (lie auspices of the Nelson Farmers' Union a winter school, extending over Saturday, commenced al Richmond this afternoon. About £OO farmers were present, indicating the great interest taken in the school. During the session lectures and demonstrations will be given by Government experts and others on various matters, and it is hoped that every farmer who possibly can will attend at least some of the sessions. The value of such instruction and , practical demonstrations should be of inestimable benefit to the farming community generally; and if the initial school is a success there is reason to hope that it will become an annual event: This afternoon Mr-John Goulter gave a demonstration on Jersey cattle and Romney sheep, and Mr G. H. Andrews on Sothdowns and half-bred sheep'. Lectures will be given each evening in the Y.M.C.A. Institute.
