MOTUEKA BEACH
PROPOSED SAFE BATHING AREA A meeting of ladies, convene,! by the Mayoress (Mrs D. VV. Talbot) was' held at her residence on Tuesday afternoon, and had for its object the raising of funds to erect a safe bathing enclosure at Motueka beach. During last summer many sharks were sighted close to the shore, and consequently mothers were afraid to allow their children to bathe. With the recent improvements—trees planted and a water supply laid on—the beach is now a beanl if til camping and picnicing ground. The meeting considered that the construction of a safe bathing place would be an additional improvement and an added attraction to the beach. Ways and means of raising the necessary funds were then discussed; and, it was resolved '(Mrs H. Atkins) that a house lu house canvass he made. Seconded b ythe Mayoress and carried-un-animously. Resolved (Mrs C, R. Talbot.) that a gala day be held on the beach on Boxing Day, and' that the Motueka Brass Band and others be asked to. give their assistance. Seconded bv Mrs M Staples. ' ■ ' ' The ladies' committee. include the Mayoress, Borough Councillors' wives, and the wives of bandsmen and band committee members.
