FROM NELSON, MARLBOROUGH AND WESTLAND IN RUGBY AND HOCKEY TEST TEAMS (United Press Abho< iation.) ' ' WESTPORT, This Day General disappointment is expressed in the Bullet- district that not a single player from it has been chosen for the hockey team to represent New Zealand. It was generally expected that H. Lockey, who brilliantly represented New Zealand in the Australian tour and is playing better hockey to-day, would have been selected. * From Westland right round to Marlborough finds not one representative in either the New Zealand hockey or Rugby teams, yet nowhere in the Dominion is interest in these games keener than in this extended area.
SOUTH ISLAND TEAM
SELECTION CRITICISED
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day
Criticism of the South Island selection was voiced at a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night, the chairman remarking that the selectors had not seen the front rankers before choosing them. Other members held that the selectors should have more time in which to see players and to'do their work properly; A sub-committee was set up to draft suggestions to this end.
