Later details of Ihe Redhead ex plosion suite thai one man was killed and eleven injured. The explosion occurred about a mile from ihe surface in a tunnel line, and caught the men unawares. Ii was followed by a lire, which was soon extinguished, but not before the miners were badly burned. One of (he survivors described their experiences when the explosion occurred as being thrown about like corks. He believed thai the explosion followed a fall of coal. The lirsl indication ai the pithead of the disaster was a telephone message "conic down quickly! There has been an unusual burst of air!" A NAKED LIGHT Si DNEY. This Day The explosion at the Redhead colliery is attributed to a naked light coming in (.intact with a pocket of gas. When th" flare occurred there was no loud report. None of the injured suffered concussion. The colliery was always regarded as a sale mine, naked lights being used freely. This is the first accident; of the kind in this colliery, which has been operating for 40 years. None of those injured is in a critical condition, though Ihe injuries of t wo are. serious .
