SOVIET’S NEW “GOLD MINE”
SUNKEN TREASURE SHIP According to the Moscow correspondent of tile Berliner Jageblatt, the Bolsneviks believe they have discovered a very profitable source of revenue at the bottom of tne Black Sea, m the shape oi the wreck of the British warship Prince, which, with other vessels, was sunk oil Balaclava in the great storm of November 14-10, 1854. This’ ship is reputed to have treasure to-,the value of over iII.SdJ.OJO sterling on board, and it appears that the. Boisiieviks have already spent two years in searching for this hoard. Now, after much arduous toil, their divers claim to have located the vessel in 60ft, of water. All that remains now is to find the. four iron eases in which, according to tradition, the gold was packed. It may he added that the wreck of a British warship'supposed to contain bullion has, ever since the Crimean War. been visible in calm weather beneath the water /outside Balaclava. Harbour, and that attempts to explore its hold have always been defeated by the sand in which it. is embedded. In the storm mentioned eleven trnnspoiTs were, wrecked and six disabled. The Prince, a new steamer, was lo*t wilh 144 lives. The total deaths numbered about. 500
