BANK RETURNS
MONEY NOT SO PLENTIFUL I’Crrled Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Dominion banking returns for the December quarter show the following figures—Free deposits, £25,189,553 ; fixed deposits; £20,840.809 • Government deposits, £3,696,545; note circulation, £6.947,677; coin and bullion, £7,740.219; advances, £46,627.070; discounts. £1.927.357. The figures provide a very interesting review of Hie financial position and show that money was not nearly so plentiful as it has been. The December quarter always shows a heavy drain on the banks’ funds for financing, gathering, and marketing of the season’s produce. Tn the September quarter there was an excess of deposits over advances of £2,778,065, but the December quarter exhibits an excess of advances of £2.524,065, which means the hanks have "been drawn on to the extent of £5.302.130. Besides the producers' requirements some of this lias been needed to finance importations, which are on a heavy scale at present.
