Mr A. T. Duoglas, who for the past eleven years has been in th 0 employ of .Messrs E. Ruxton and Co., Ltd., has been appointed assistant-orchard instructor in the Nelson district, and will take no his duties at the beginning of the New Year. Prior to severing his connection with the firm, Mr Douglas was the recipient, of a presentation from the staff.

Colonel R. Uenery. chief secretary of lhe Salva'on .Army in New Zealand, has been notified of his transfer to a. similar position in Eastern, Canada, states a Palmcrston North press telegram.

Mr S. Jickell, of Palmerston North, formerly city engineer. Nelson, is on a visit to the city.

The death occurred at Hawera of MiRichard Wylie. a brother of Messrs Andrew, Edgie and "Albert Wylie. of Wellington. The late Air Wylie was president of the Petone Bowling Club a few years ago and was one of the best exponents of the game that club then had.

The death occurred suddenly at the Grey River Hospital on Tuesday last of Mr .James Henry Jennings, third son of Mis Susa'n Jennings, of Wckastreel. Nelson. Deceased was a wellknown sawinillor. formerly of Bell Hill and Marlborough. He was for eight years with John Brownlie and Co.. saw millers, and had been for some time in partnership with .Mr Cordon Webb in milling work. Deceased, who was wellknown in Nelson, was a line type of man. and was generally esteemed. He served with the N.Z. Expeditionary Force in France, being wounded on two occasions. A brother. Aubrey, was killed in the South African War. and another, "Bert," lost his life in the (.•real War. The funeral took place yesterday, Mr Fitzgerald, of the Church of Christ, conducting the burial service: while I.P.M. Bio. 1.. Esteourt, of Lodge Victory, read the Masonic service, deceased having been a member of Lodge Havelock. Among those present were Mr (!, Webb, a number of deceased's comrades from tin 1 Havelock district; and Mr (3. Wharton (president), and Mr N. Vcrcnc (secretary) of the Nelson .Returned Soldiers' Association.
