OPENING OE NEW BRIDGE An item of importance to local residents and to the travelling public generally, was the opening of tile new 'oneretp bridge at- Redwood -s Valley 1 ecently. Tin: bridge lias been under construction for some months past, and there was quite a little gathering on opening day to see the first- car cross. A ribbon had been stretched across by Air 11. J. Campbell, and Mr X. Emms had th 0 honour of owning the first, vehicle driven over the new structure.

FAREWELL SOCIAL A social evening was held in the school, the occasion being (O farewell Mi A. Calverl and Ins family, who are leaving the district for Ihe North Island. Grown, on behalf of lh ( . residents, expressed the i egret that, was felt at tin* departure of Mr Calvert- and his family, and asked Mr Calvert to accept a handsome travelling rug as a parting gift from their many friends in the district. Mr Calvert suitably replied, and wished the growers the best of luck in the coming years. The usual musical lion ours to the departing guests terminated a very pleasant evening.
