SUTER ART SOCIETY

(Tt the Editor.) S'-r, —I should 1 ito point out to your correspondent “Interested,” that it is a rule of the Kindred Art Societies of New Zealand that local artists must become financial members of tho Society before exhibiting. A., fortnight ago we advertised that- subscriptions (hon .members 10/- and working members 5 -) were due and could be paid to Miss Tomlinson or myself, and those, who have neglected to do so have only themselves to blame for not having been given details re sending in of their sketches, etc. In the past the Sufer Art Society has been far too lax in respect of subscriptions, to its own disadvantage, and in future it will be necessary to bring it more into lino with kbdred societies. The arrangements for this exhibition are in the capable hands of Miss J. Tomlinson, acting hon. secretary of the Suter Art Society, and Mr F. G. Gibb's, hon. secretary Suter Art Gallery, and a debt- cf gratitude is due to Mr McDonald, hon. secretary of the National Art Association, for the trouble he has taken in arranging for the sketches bv members of his Society to he sent over for it. Trusting' the public will appreciate the effort made ui behalf of art in Nelson and realise that it is impossible to keep an art society going without.’ subscriptions'. I am, etc., NINA JONES. Hon. Sec., Suter Art Society, and a Vice-President for Nelson of the National Art Association.
