PREFERENCE ON SUGAR ADOPTED
LONDON, June 11
The House of Commons, during the course, of a night long debate, after the rejection of various Opposition amendments, adopted the customs duty on hops and Imperial preference on sugar. PREFERENCE FOR HOI’S LONDON, June 11. The. control of Imps ceases in August. The new duty is £4 a hundredweight, with one-third preference for Imperial supplies. The hop controller is holding lip 5000 bales of Dominion hops. The High Commissioner is reqneslingthe Colonial Secretary to release these earlier to prevent-' unfavourable competition with foreign countries.
