RICHMOND BOROUGH

The installation of Mr Geo. Kidd as Mayor of the Borough of Richmond took place at the Council Chambers at noon Yesterday. There were present: Mr Jas. Hunt, Mayor-, Mr W. E. Wilkes, ex-Mayor, Os. Muntz, Kelly, Lusty and Pi'ice, also Messrs Crouclier, Ward, Baker, and Collier. The Mayor, after a few introductory remarks, said he ha c ] much pleasure in ii.stalling Dir Kidd as Mayor of the Borough, and congratulated him on securing the position, and hoped he would have a. successful term of office. Mr Kidd then took the 1 usual declaration, and was handed Die key of the Chambers ad the Borough Seal. Crs. Kelly, Lusty, Muntz, and Price congratulated the Mayor on his success, stated they would do their utmost io assist him and in the interest of the ratepayers. Mr Wilkes, as a layman and ratepayer, congratulated the Mayor, arid although Tt was not his desire to rule, he was placed there by a majority of the ratepayers, and he Avas sure lie would fill tbe position with credit. The ratc’ayers owed a debt of gratitude to Mr Hunt for bis services to tbe Borough, and lie trusted he would live long to eniny his retirement.

•; The Mayor, in reply, said it was a pleasure to hear the remarks of Mr Wilkes, and thanked the ex-Mayor and Councillors for their kindly remarks. With-their assistance and that of the Town Clerk, his duties as Mayor would be comparatively easy. He trusted the ratepayers would find that, their confidence had not been misplaced.
