LATE SHOPPING NIGHT
TO BE REVERTED TO IX NELSON
For some considerable time past the matter of reverting to a late shopping night in Nelson has been exercising tho minds of retailers; and it is understood that the matter has now been practically decided and will operate within tho course of a week or two. Friday lias been the night chosen. Iu former years, wßen the shops' were open on Saturday evening, the city streets were usually crowded, and shoppers found it a- convenient time to make their purchases. In a good many instances wages are nowpaid out on Friday, so ready money will be available for the late night. At piesent- several retail business premises, on account of the convenience of electric light, make window displays on Friday evening, and the occasion is taken advantage of by quite a large number of people to walk through the town inspecting the brilliantly lighted windows. In several cities in New Zealand a isle shopping night is observed, so Nelson it is claimed, will only he falling into line to meet the convenience of the public.
