NELSON-BLENHEIM ROAD

(To the Editor.) Sir, —-May I ask through the columns of your widely circulated paper under which controlling body is that portion of the main highway between the Rai Saddle and Nelson? To say it is in bad repair is putting it very mildly; it is positively dangerous, and needs urgent attention from the responsible body. If this is the class of road we are to get- under the highway scheme, plus the motor tax, then the sooner we revert- to former conditions the better. I do not know. Sir, whether you have driven over this particular road recently or not, hut l can assure you, it is ■shockingly bad ; what with pot boles {more like shell holes with the “s” left out) and a double trench running down the road on the bills, it is really wonderful there are not more nucidents. Then Sir, there is a broken culvert at flic foot of the Rai Saddle on theNel son sifle, which lias been m a dangerous condition for some days, and no effort appears to have hern made to repair this, indeed, there does not appear—to me— to have been any repair work done for some considerable time. The road nil this side- of the Rai Saddle to Blenheim is, in comparison. Paradise.

I am, etc., E. 11. S.

Havelock. 25/4-25.
