A conference was held at Pikomanu on Friday afternoon between representatives of Marlborough, Bullet- and Murchison Progress Leagues. Mr Coulter (Blenheim) presided and outlined the trip through 'Marlborough to the Coast via Topltouse and urged co-operation in the speedy completion of the route. The Public Works estimate was £BO,OOO for bridging the Wairnu and completing the road to the Hopc-Btiller confluence. The route would be a. mutual behefit- to each province and also of national importance. Mr Fox (Westport) advocated assistance for the completion of the Westpoft-Givymouth-Coast road and Buller Gorge railway, works of importance and urgency. Air Corney (Murchison) stressed the necessity for speeding up construction of the Glenhope-Murchisijn line. He condemned the. present obsolete methods and snail like progress. Air Downey (Murchison) strongly favoured the Tophouse road proposition and advocated the completion of the Glenhope-Buller railway.^ Air Gouiter said Marlborough was anxious to have the East .Coast line formed to link up both islands. He agreed that the Murchison and Buller railways should be completed. The delegates decided to support each claim and referred the proposals, to aconference of South Island leagues.
