RAILWAY EXTENSION

A meeting of the executive of the Bulier Progress League to-night was addressed by Mr Barry, representing the Bulla* Sawmill Company, which has been formed at Blenheim. Mr Barry urged tins league's support in inducing the Government to expedite the extension of the Bulier Gorge railway, eleven miles beyond Cascade creek towards which the work is now in progress. The speaker said his company had taken up a considerable area of land, and expected in twelve months time to be able to produce 150,000 feet of timber per annum. If the Government wished to lay tho railway across this land his company was agreeable to dedicate the area required free of and Jo give tho Government a. guarantee of tho transport of timber by railway. He could place a good business proposition before the Government. The Bulier league welcomed Mr Barry's company, and de-cin-d to call a special meeting of the league next week to support, the request.
