LITERARY AND READING CLUB

Y.M.C.A. ACTIVITY An advertisement in Saturday’s issue reminds us that a Y.M.C.A. Literary and Leading Club is being established. ■AH members and well-wishers of the I.M.C.A. are invited to meet in their Club room to-night, Tuesday evening at 7.45 p.m. VVe welcome the initiation of this movement to further the nntellectual progress of our youth, to cultivate a taste .for and give expression to good English, pure and undeliled, to i ofnr reading circles that will deepen school-boy acquaintance with our priceless literature without the deadening limitation of impending examinations, and by friendly criticism and discussion to make one’s own literary taste of benefit to others. The promoter, who is an enthusiast on this subject, believes that the decadent art of reading aloud .may with advantage be revived, and a Shakespearean or Dramatic reading circle with character personation be formed. For this first meeting he has prepared a varied miscellaneous selection bom classic and present day authors of both prose and verse. A humorous vein will not be Jacking, and as discrimination lias been shown in selecting suitable piecoa of a popular rather than os a severely classical nature, these with brief 1 explanatory notes should be within the comprehension of all and afford a pleasing and instructive entertainment. The managers have thrown .the doors freely open to all and fathers and mothers of our young men will be especially welcome.
