WAIMEA COUNTY AFFAIRS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I am sure the returned soldiers concerned will bo grateful to The Mail for publishing my letter in your issue uf the 19th inst., and act accordingly. Thus the writer’s object in appealing to you. for such courtesy will have been achieved. But wily accuse Cr. Berryman of misrepresentation in your footnote? If you only read my letter a little more carefully you would have perceived that there was no inference therein that the motion proposed by Cr Hewetson and seconded by Or Mac Ma-hon was passed by the Waimea County Council as you blamed me for saying. 1 never object to the severest- criticism, so long as you “bit. above the belt.” That funny record in the County Minute Book in which the proposed instructions to take immediate action (by summons) to “collect- all rates’" was boiled down to “sue” all “members of the Council,” shows that our worthy Clerk has more sense of humour than he gets credit for. I am etc.. H. G. BERRYMAN. Stanley Downs, Nov. 22, 1924.
