GATHERING OF MUSICIANS
AIR. WESLEY ROBERTS’ VISIT
The members of the Nelson Professional Musicians' Association and friends entertained the visiting examiner of the Associated Board of E,A.M. and R.O.M. on Saturday evening last aC, the Marsden Church The examiner, Mr Roberts, was introduced to a large gathering of teachers and student®: by. Mxa Macfarlane .(president) stating ,that the had done Jnuch,to raise the standard of, music in our midst. Mr Roberts then proceeded with an instructive and amusing address, dealing with experiences and impressions- in connection with his work as an examiner, concluding by answering a few questions put to him by those present, f ' . A vote of thanks to the visitor for his presence/ and : address was then put by Mrs Macfarlane and supported by Mr J. Tait'and Mr H. S. Claughtdn, and carried by acclamation. After; refreshments had been dispensed van enjoyable evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem. MEETING~OF COUNCIL * ' A meeting of the Association's:Council was held preceding the above, when the following new members were elected:—Mi- Martin Check and Miss Check, 6f Blenheim, Mrs Weyergang, JVlisses Isabel Palmer, L.T.C.L., and *" Mena Eairey, L.T.C.L. Mr Tait's resignation as secretary was accepted with regret, and Mr ;H. S. Claughton was appointed in his place. Mrs Hopkinsi L.K.A.M., was appointed treasurer, vice Miss Ina Smiley resigned. The Association is now a strong one, having 24 members thoroughly representative of the teachers in the district.
