VICTORY TENNIS CLUB

GARDEN PARTY AT VICTORY SQUARE

On Saturday a garden party under tlie auspices of Victory Tennis Club was held at Victory Square, in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance of members and friends, who spent a very pleasant afternoon. The various side-shows and stalls proved a great attraction. The Regimental Band played several selections which considerably enlivened the proceedings. Several competitions w,ero field during the afternoon, the winning numbers lidveitised in this issue.

The Mayoress (Mrs Lock) in opening tlie function congratulated the residents of the neighbourhood on the fine courts which they possessed, mainly tlue to the keen interest members of the Club displayed and the working bees which had been held. -She said she felt sure that the function, judging by the wellladen stalls, and the large gathering would be a great financial success. The stallholders were as follows: —

Tea rooms: Mrs Lambert, Mrs Toll, Misses I. Phillips, T. Phillips, A. Burns. Produce: Mrs Sherwood, Miss Furneaux.

Fancy YVork: Mrs Watson, Miss; Shaw.

Cake Stall: Mrs Wreath, Mrs Hutson. •Sweets Stall: Mrs Blanche, Miss Riley. Gipsy Tent: Mesdames Tovey and YY 7 arisbone.

Punch and Judy: Messrs Jones and Gray. Soft Drinks: Miss K. Elliott. Jumble Stall: Miss B. Cooksey. Houp La: Messrs Cameron and Kincaid.

The social committee wish to thank all who gave donations and helped to make the function such an unqualified success. “

Prizes were awarded for the best decorated push-cart and tricycle and for various cooking classes. It is intended to hold another function during the coming month.
