MEAT PRICES
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian and in.Z. Cable Association)
LONDON, Nov. 21
The London Corporation Markets Committee, for the guidance of the public, has issued its first report on retail Meat prices in which it is stated that allowance is made for reasonable profit. The respective prices per pound for home grown and imported are as follow.ii:—Rump steak 2/8 and 1/8; sirloin 1/10 and 1/1; mutton, legs and loins, 1/6 and 1/2; lambs, legs and loins l/lO and 1/6. The Daily Herald, discussing the suggested scheme for,’ the control of meat supplies, savs that without communal purchase and distribution, with fixed prices, the scheme will do nothing to restrict the operations of meat trusts, which .at present dominate the markets. The explanation of tlie rise in the prices is that there is a real shortage of mutton this year,, the deficiency being nearly two million carcases.
