-'A meeting of the general committee of the Nelson' Horticultural Society was held last evening, • there being present Messrs E. B. Izard, W. H. Simpson, J. Hockey, W. Louisson, L. M. Estcourt (secretary), Mesdamesy iWastriey; Rridxrian and Calder, Misses’Kitching arid Cooke (2). In the absence 'of the . president Mr Izard was voted to (he chair. iA.. number of suggestions deposited in a f-box at the bulb show were read, some .of ;which -. were adopted, while others HvilPbri'further considered when the next' sdhedule is being ; drawn up; A proposal that the pot plants be staged 15 Opposite' the door,' in order that an impression might be immediately made on entering the Drill Hall, was considered. It was stated that this question had been previously brought up, but some exhibitors had objected to their plants' beihg placed in sridh a position,' as many of them were from glasshouses and might be detrimentally ai- ’ fee ted by the wind. It was thought possible, however, 1 to get over this difficulty by placing the ’plants nearer the southern wall, or perhaps by the use ot a screen. '/•’ ' 1 I-he secretary was instructed to inquire into the cost of suitably-coloured drapery for the tables. Suggestions in Tegard to the decorative section were noted. It was decided to recommend that classes be provided for next year’s bulb show for the following varieties: — Potentate, Robert Sydenham, Glory of Nooirdwidj'k in trumpets; Aimbrosino and Robespien’e in cups. Also that there be classes for six blooms of Lord Roberts, Duke- of Bedford, Empress, Bernardino, ' Fleetwing, Gloria Mundi and White Lady. The duplicated classes for King Alfred, Duke of Bedford, arid Cornelia, were recommended to be deleted, also the class for Brilliancy. •It was resolved that a letter bo sent to.’ Mr T. Waugh, jurir., of the Mutt, thanking him for acting as judge of the recent show without charge. Members referred in enthusiastic terms to the success of the bulb show, arid expressed confidence that it would continue to expand. A suggestion was made that the date of'the rose show bo November 7th, instead of 14th, as it was thought by some that the roses would be early. It wag decided that, it was inadvisable to alter the date of the show decided on by the schedule committee arid published. _ A*- class for six flowers of shrubs, distinct, ,was added to the rose show schedule, special prizes being offered therefor. Members remarked that this should prove a popular class. It was resolved to, apply for the Drill Hall for the rese show. _____
