“YOU CAD !”
HORSEWOMAN AND POLICE SERGEANT

A married woman was lined £3 hv the Magistrate for striking- a police sergeant who had desired her and her companion to move on from tho footpath in Karangahape Road, on which they had ridden their horses to seek Shelter from the rain. When the sergeant remonstrated, tho woman said, “When lam ready,” and when he pointed out that the bylaw was being broken she cried warmly, “You dare to speak to me, you cad,” and refused to move or give her name. The sergeant reached for tho horse’s bridle, intending to lead the animal into the road, whereupon the woman struck him with her riding crop, crying, “How dare you touch a lady’s horse!” She then cantered off to rejoin her companion, who had drawn away during the argument. Tho woman was also fined £l. for a breqeh of the by-law.
