CAR RUNS INTO SCHOOLBOYS
TWO SERIOUSLY INJURED

James Davis, of Nelson, was driving a car through Waipara when a boy riding a cycle crossed suddenly on to the wrong side of the road. The motorist swerved to avoid him and knocked down four school boys standing on the roadside. Two suffered minor injuries, but their two companions were sent to hospital, one with a bad leg wound and the other with severe scalp wounds.

In. connection with the motor accident at Waipara, it is explained that in trying to avoid one of the boys who was riding a bicycle, the motorist, Janies Davis, ran into a.group of four boys who were standing at the roadside. The car was a Maxwell inrecseater, and the driver, James Davis, is a travelling hawker, a resident of Nelson. He was proceeding north through Waipara shortly after 12 o’clock. The school children had just been dismissed for lunch, and some of them were making towards the store in the township. The hoy Treloar was riding a bicycle, and it was when passing him that the m-otorist encountered trouble. It appears that Treloar was on his correct side of the road, hut as the motor approached he attempted to cross, ’tills brought about disastrous results. Davis swerved fo avoid running down tlie cyclist, but a slight, collision took place, and the boy was knocked over.
