The match showed the Australian s superiority clearly. Snodgrass, who is the southern Californian champion, has been playing brilliant tennis this season, but was unable to withstand Patterson’s volcanic service on volleying. Snodgrass tired quickly hut attempted to confuse the Australian by soft lobbing and tricky change of pace, but unsuccessfully. Patterson played a game surprisingly free from errors. Patterson and Wood defeated Westbrook and Snodgrass in the semi-finals 6 — l, 6 — 3, 6 — 6. COPENHAGEN, July 27. In 'the Davis Cup preliminary Czechoslovakia heat Denmark 3—2. LONDON, July 28. The Daily Chronicle says Kingscote is definitely retiring after the Davis Cun matches against France. Owing to incessant rain at Eastbourne the Davis Cup doubles were postponed till to-morrow.
