Most of the time of the House yesterday afternoon was spent in discussing the Island fruit trade. The principal point concerned the division of the steamer from Auckland to Wellington, about which there was considerable controversy some /time ago, following on protests made ih Auckland on the sub1 6 Labour members urged that there was need for properly orgamsed’slnppmg service. , , n n Tr , The Minister in charge of Cook Jslands,, Sir M. Pomare, stated that the Auckland merchants had deliberately set. out to kill the trade to Wellington. The Governments’ policy in arranging oi a hot to Wellington was to ensure that the fruit left the same night of arrival, to allow better distribution m the South Island.
