LONDON, June 16.
Following the lead of many other notabilities owning : large estates Marquis Linlithgow registered the Hopet'own estates as a private limited company with a capital of £235,725. The Daily Chronicle slates, that a romantic claim to the Angell Benedict estate in South London, valued at £60,000,000, is being made on behalf of William Allery, an 80-ycar-old tailor. Allery’s agent'states that he obtained t!ie highest legal opinion, which supports his claim. A fund of £SOOO is being raised to defray the costs of the application. Subscribers are promised a' return of 1000 per cent, on their contributions in the event of the claim being successful. PARIS, June 16. Pearls formerly owned •by Madame Thiers, widow of' the famous statesman, have hem sold by auction for the record sum of £142,000. The pearls were presented to the Louvre by M. Thiers sister in 1881, but as tlieii artistic value as an exhibit was considcied expired l Parliament 'agreed to the sale. The proceeds will be applied to aid charities.
