MEXICO AND BRITAIN
EXPULSION OF AN OFFICIAL
(By Electrlo Telegraph.—Copyright.) ■ (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.)
MEXICO CITY, June 15.
The Foreign Office has issued a strongly worded statement of the reasons for the expulsion from Mexico of Herbert Cummins, British Charge D Affaires. It asserts that Mr Cummins for years had been persona non grata with the Mexico Government, which openly accuses him of lack of respect and courtesy, and even with wilfully incorrect statements to his Government in reporting local incidents. The statement says Mexico twice asked Britain to recall Mr Cummins, but the British Government supported its representative, untii finally Mexico decided that he must be expelled, claiming that he was not a diplomat but a private person. The statement concludes by saying that Mexico ifl eager to renew friendly relations with Britain, but must have an acceptable representative who will observe diplomatic customs.
