Mr M. P. Hargreaves of Nelson, one of tlu oldest members of the Oddfellows’ Lodge in New Zealand, paid a visit t-o the Conference yesterday afternoon and was received with musical honours, being given a seat alongside the Grandmaster. In introducing Bro. Hargreaves, D.G.M. Davies stated that he was initiated in the Order in 1853, and had had 71 years continuous membership. The Grandmaster Bro W. R. Galiagan, in welcoming Bro. Hargreaves said the conference was very, pleased to see a brother of such longstanding, and extended to him a hearty welcome. Mr R. B. Witty, general manager to the Eastbourne Borough Council, has resigned. Mr Witty was formerly chief clerk to the- Nelson City Council. The Town Clerk (Mr O. A. Edmonds) returned lo Nelson this morning from a. short' visit to Wellington.
