NELSON SAVAGE CLUB

KOREROS TO BE RESUMED

A public meeting was held at the Library on Friday evening, April 4th, with a view to reviving the Nelson Savago Club. The chair was occupied by the Mayor (Mr W. Lock), who is an old member of the Club. Mr Lock gave a short outline of the way in which the Savage Club was conducted in Nelson. He mentioned that he had spent many enjoyable evenings there and that he considered it responsible for bringing about a- great deal of good fellowship, and aEo of bringing out a great deal of unsuspected talent. After Messrs Gould and McCabe had spoken oii similar lines, Mr Saunders proposed that the Nelson Savage Club should be revived. This was seconded by Mr Betts and carried with a good deal of enthusiasm.

On the motion of Mr Rogers, Mr T. A .Field was elected Chief Savage. A provisional committee, consisting of Messrs Rout, Mitchell, McCabe and Saunders was appointed to arrange for the first korero, and Mr Parker was' elected secretary and treasurer. The annual subscription was fixed at 10/6, on the motion of Mr Gould. The chairman invited all those who wished to become members to hand in their names, and all present expressed their wish to join the Club. At a subsequent meeting of the committee it was decided to hold the first korero at the Hacremai Tea Rooms. An orchestra organised by Mr Vitetta has been arranged for and there will be a good programme.
