At the ordinary meeting of the Tahunanui Town Hoard there were present, Messrs C. 11. Chamberlain (chairman), F. W. Greenslade, W. Carter, L. Ingham. M. O'Sullivan, (!. T. Robins, T. J. Wilson.

Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £6l 8s 6d. Correspondence.—From Richmond Borough Council advising the Board as a result of the deputation from the Board to confer with this Council on the matter of tar-sealing Rocks Road and discussing the subject from all points, the Council came to'the conclusion that they are unable to see their wav to agree to t'ne tar-sealing of Rocks Road at present.

From Nelson City Council, advising the Board that the City Engineer has been instructed to inspect the sea. 'wall along Rocks Road and if he finds it a matter of urgency to carry out the work at once.

Mr Grcenslnde reported lo Mm 'Hoard that in conjunction with Mr O’Sutlivnu lu> interviewed (lio Richmond Borough Council and nut the Hoard’s views beforo tlioin with regard lo Rocks Road and advised them that the Hoard \vb« very much concerned at the high cost of maintenance. Tie quoted the cost of the last two years, which was approximately £I2OO, which would be an ever-recurring expense with an unsatisfactory .rojul and a complaining public. Tie endeavoured to show the Council the advantage of tar-sealing, the estimated cost of (he work and the estimated cost of main tenanee, showing that we would ha\c a- guild road at a reduced cost. The Council met us in a very friendly and neighbourly spirit, and were very sympathetic towards the Hoard. Hut tin. Council looked at things from a different standpoint. They do not consider it just or equitable that they should be compelled to pay towards the upkeep of the Rocks Road an*.3re paying their quota under protest. The Council mentioned that they had a through road of their own to maintain, which it largely used by outside traffic. The Council are in hopes that a commission will he set up.to reconsider the' -whoo: question. Quite a number of questions were asked by the Councillors, which were answered. Mr, Kidd, who was one of the Richmond Borough Council’s i\? presentativos at the local bodies’ conference was of the opinion that the lafgei scheme ns outlined ,at the conference should be considered and perhaps given effect to. After a general discussion the Council decided that they would go further into til.; matter and send a deputation lo the Hoard me.eting and let the Board know the result. Mr Robins reported to the Board that lie in conjunction with Mr Chamberlain and Mr O'Sullivan had visited the Power Station at Bright water and interviewed Mr Ellis with reference to the electric lighting of the 'Town district. After viewing the plant and going into details M r Ellis satisfied .the delegates that the lighting would he better in the future than it had been in the past, Mr Ellis advised them that the (loll’ road would lie. reticulated.
