Mr Massey addressed a gathering c over a thousand here last night. Tfe ■Premier received an ovation on entering the hall and again when lie rose h speak. He expressed pleasure at hs .reception in Southland and said lie hal had a very busy time’since the days I the war. During the cotfrse of a lengtly speech Mr Massey said that last ye.r the country exported £lB 000,000 worli of butter and cheese, and he had ben advised that roughly the exports for t.e last financial vear totalled over £5,500,000, despite adverse conditions. Pat of the increase was made up by a b;gor price being received for wool, Ut all the same it was a great achievemetThore was plenty of room, however, J>r even more improvement. All over Njw Zealand were places where the surfee only had been scratched, hut in a fw years they would he as good as he best lan l in the Dominion. 1 Regardag the public debt he said there was no need to worry. When over £50,000,00 worth was exported in a year there ms no need to worry about New Zealarl s credit. .
