Dr. El wood Mead has been appointed Commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation in the United States Department of the Interior. He is being granted leave of absence from the University of California to assume Ins new duties, the first of which will be the reorganisation of the reclamation service.
NEW YORK, April 4
A quarantine order covering the San Francisco abattoirs on account of foot and mouth disease has been lifted ns a result of the subsidence, of the infection. Packing accordingly bas been resumed. The authorities expect the quarantine will be progressively removed as successive localities control the disease.
