EXTREME SHORTAGE OF COAL The Gas Manager informs the Mayor that there is extreme shortage of coal at the works. Supplies that should have arrived on Monday last have not come to hand, and the earliest that they can expect lo get coal is Friday morning, providing the steamer can negotiate the bar at Greymouth.

Meantime the supply of gas will be limited both as regards quality and quantity. Consumers are advised lo he as eapeful as possible in the use of gas. A fairly large shipment of Newcastle coal is expected next week and another the following week.
