(By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Australian $ N.Z. Cable Association). NEW YORK, Sept. 8 Californian towns are crowded with tourists who exjicct to witness the nine-ty-nine per cent eclipse of the sun oil Monday. Scientists arc attempting to secure more data in connection with the Einstein theory, supplementing that odtained in Australia.
Other subjects upon which Monday’s darkness is expected to shed light u <*, how does the sun continue to givo *»acn enormous heat without observable shrinkage in size and is there a mysterious planet somewhere between Mercury and the sun.
(The path of totality will cross Mexico and the southern extremity of California, and the eclipse will be seen as partial all over the United States and for a corresponding distance southwards of the tine of totality.
An unusual feature of the eclipse observations on this occasion is that a coastal steamer, the Yale, is to run an excursion trip from San Francisco, to carry people out to sea to view the phenomenon from the middle of the lino of totality. The moon, at a time of solar eclipse, is in the “new” phase. At the previous full moon, the Sunday before last, the moon was partially.eclipsed, but as the diminution of its light- was smaU the event- was not generally noticed.)
