HEAVY LANDSLIDES

AUCKLAND, This Day

Two heavy landslides, one between Kakahi and 0 whan go, south of Taumarunui, and the other between Alatavo.'i and Taihape, blocked the Alain Trunk line. The Kakahi block occurred at about 5 o’clock last evening and the one at Alataroa an hour later. Tho south-hound mixed train ran into the Kakahi slip and the engine was derailed. hut nobody was hurt. The extent of the damage is unknown here,, hut it is expected to take from twelve to fourteen hours to clear the slips, and in the meantime traffic is suspended. The south-bound express is expected to reach Wellington about midnight to-day and the north-hound train will reach here about 5 o'clock this evening. The northward train was held at Taihape for the night, and the south-hound at Taumarunui. Passengers, luggage and mails will probably have to he transferred afc one or both slips. TAIHAPE, This Day

Owing to rain the railway line south of Taihape is being closely watched for slips.

The railway from Ohakune to Alarton is free at present.

Reports from Hunterville district state that several large areas not usually subject to floods are under water. The weather conditions are the worst ever experienced here and all outdoor work is at a standstill.
