ALLEGED FORGERY
YOUNG MAN CHARGED A young man, named Alfred 'Foster, aged 22 years, was bought before Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M., to-day/on a charge that on 13th June, 1923, at Nelson, did forge the name of D. Henderson!' to‘a. cheque on the National Bank of New Zealand, Nelson,, for £7,105, and did utter the same to Philip Percy Wiimsett, with the intent that" it should be acted upon as genuine,. knowing the same to be false. “ ' • ' -\' r " Sergt. Scott asked; for ia remand until Monday. He stated that accused would admit the -offence. Accused,- he stated, had borrowed two cheques from a hotelkeeper at the Port, on the pretence that another hotelkeeper at the Port required them. He then went to town and filled them in and uttered them on two different shopkeepers, making small purchases and getting the 'balance of 'the cheques in cash. V' .:., ' / .. , Accused was remanded until Monday.
