FINE DISPLAY OF CHRYSANTHEMUMS The chrysanthemums make a very pretty display. There is, a big increase in the number of exhibits, and set oral new growers, indicating a growing interest in this fascinating flower. In the open section there is good, competition an most of the classes, and many of the blooms reach the high standard which has been set for chrysanthemums in Nelson. The contest for the champion six Japanese brenight out some very superior blooms A pleasing feature is the interestsn the novice section, in, which several growers competed and staged 'blooms which would do credit to any “old hand.”
Tho classes for sprays have also filled exceptionally well tliis year. This section has been poorly represented of late years, but ou this occasion sprays have been staged in record numbers and make a pretty show. Again, in pot chrysanthemums there lias been a great improvement, both in regard t» culture and number of exhibits. Pot ’mums are very effective, and a few growers competing can make up a fine display. The’ return of pot culture will be greatly welcomed. '
Dahlias make a pretty show, but unfortunately owing to the late date are not seen in anything like their best. There was, however, quite good competition. . . DECORATIVE EXHIBITS This section is an effective feature. The entries throughout are capital, and in baskets, vases, wreaths, and bouquets there is keen Competition, wb\e the number of decorated tables is a record. The exhibits indicate that there are many artistic decorators tin the city, the designing and blending producing fine effects.
