The Lansing-Ishii agreement, under which in 1917 the United States recognised Japan's special interests in China, has been cancelled by mutual agreement between the Washington and Tokio Governments. Diplomatic negotiations resulted in a new understanding based primarily on the provisions of the ninepower agreement reached at the Washington Conference. _
