EASTER BOWLING TOURNAMENT
GREAT GATHERING* OF VISITORS
howling..tournament, .organised by' the Nelson Bowling Club will Be the biggest affair of its kind ever held, in Nelson.,, There are 52 entries, including the .following clubs: Richmond, Westport, .Carterton, Greymouth, Trinwood (Christchurch), Victoria (Wellington),-; .Thorndon (Wellington), Can-terbury-(Christchurch), Wakefield, United (Christchurch), Maitai, Nelson, Wellington, Mofueka, Hawera, Palmerston North, Pahiatua, Takaka, Picton, Hataitai (Wellington), Shannon, Karori Wellington), Blenheim and Eastbourne (Wellington). The tournament will be diyjdgd Into four., sections, and the greens to be utilised will be the Nelson (old and new), ■ Maitai and Wakefield. Two games of 25 heads will be played each day, one in fhe morning -and the other in the afterhoon, play commencing each day at 9 a.m. and.2 p.m,. For the winning rink trophies valued at £lO will be given, and for the runner-up trophies of. the value of £7. Play will commence on Friday and the finais will bo played on the Nelson green (Selwyn Place) on Tuesday morning, when the •inner .will, he decided on the “sudden death” principle, 21 heads being played./ Fine' weather is all that is needed to make, the tournament a success. Already a nlimber of visitors have arrived, and are .spending, their time practising on the Jpcal greens. . . The grounds are now in first-class order and present a very picturesque appearance. ... ~ : The new green will not be officially opened until next season, -nd they aio being -used this season solely lor the ; purrases of the tournament. - The top green will be used for tournament blay ; while the lower one " ill be available-; for bowlers not engaged m the matches.
COMPETITIONS ON NEW GREENS Great preparations have been made for the carnival to be held on the Nelson Club’s new greens on Saturday and Monday nights. The grounds will be illuminated with electric light, and various competitions will he , played. The public are invited both during the day and.,in the evening, and no charge will Be. made for admission. Arrangements ha,ve been made for morning and afternoon tea- and .also supper, for which a small charge will be,made. -All profits ■wfll go towards the new green. The refreshments will be served in the hew pavilion recently acquired by the club. The Silver Band. will be present each evening. Competitions will be held both bh the greens and in the pavilion. On the greens, will .be a drawing tournament, competitors to play to numbers on a large calico sheet. We have b'een.afiked to specially point put that the public are .invited, but that no children will be admitted unless in charge, .of their parents.
