CHARGES UNRESERVEDLY WITHDRAWN

The Royal Commission’s investigation of eharg-s against ofUcors of the postal department ended 1 in rather a sensational manner last night, when the charges Were unreservedly withdrawn. Mr Ma/.ertgrrb was asked by the Commissioner, now that he had heard all the evidence, ■whether ho did not think it his duty to withdraw the charges and apologise. ■Mr Mazengarh, after consulting Mr Combs, said, “I realise frankly that the. criticism in the lei lor I wrote to the Postmaster-General goes too, tar, and I am sorry I wrote it and drew inferences from facts and cast aspersions on the officers concerned. I am sorry in 30 far •as lam concerned. I withdraw the charges unreservedly.” Commissioner Hunt said he would rc nerve the point as to costs; hut that he had closed the inquiry.
