WASHINGTON TREATY
SCRAPPING OF WARSHIPS

WASHINGTON, Dec. 3. Explaining, the reference in the House of Commons to scrapping warships the British Embassy published a list of eight British capital ships already sold to shipbreakers. Eight others are in the first stage of scrapping, none of which are obsolete or would have been scrapped except for .the .Washington Treaty. The Embassy refuted a recent press despatch which made a positive statement that neither Britain, the XJnited States, nor Japan had begun scrapping vessels not already obsolete, and were awaiting ratification of the treaty by all the powers concerned. FRANCE AND THE PACIFIC 4PARIS, Dec. 3. A report covering colonial estimates submitted to the Chamber declared that the Pacific zone, since the Washington conference, had become the, economic centre of the world. Franco must not play a secondary role to Britain, America and Japan. France must, create a high commissioner for the Pacific.
