SAVED

The generous response made by the people of Now Zealand it) the appeal of the Lord Mayor of London for the relief of the famine-stricken inhabitants of Russia has been asknowlcdged in several quarters. Mr G. IL Furness, chairman of the Auckland Citizens' Committee appointed to organise the appeal, has received a- letter' from the High Commissioner, Sir James Allen, staling that all consignments sent from this country reached their destination intact. Sir James slates that he has received communications from different officials connected with tho Mansion House, London, thanking the people of New Zealand for’ the help they have given in “the very _ great work which now stands to their credit in Russia,” and assuring him that their magnificent efforts have been tho means of saving thousands of little children and orphans, who, but lor them, must have died of starvation.
