Tiic first auction 7 sale of pedigree Jersey cattle in the Nelson province was successfully held at Richmond, almw grounds Thursday, 23rd Novell! her, by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Asociatisou, Ltd., assisted by the Nelson Jersey Breeders’ Club. Most of the successful buyers wore local fanners, which augurs well for the welfare of tho district, as the, introduction of pure blood into the herd means bigger production of butterfat. 1
Although in many eases tire bidding did not reach the. owners’ reserves, there is no doubt that as time goes on and the dairy farmers realise the advantages of using nothing but pure bred stoek, there will lie total clearances at stud sales of (his description. The Nelson Jersey Breeders’ Club are to be congratulated on. its enterprise in promoting the sate, and confidence is felt that with No I .moil’s ideal climate this district will lie made a Mecca of New Zealand for Jersey cattle.
